Remel Derrick

Remel Derrick is a music graduate of Southwestern Christian College and Abilene Christian University.  He is the Associate Director of Choirs at Abilene High School in Abilene, Texas where he shares in the responsibilities of directing both varsity and non-varsity choirs, teaches AP Music Theory, as well as music directs the school musical. Remel's compositions are self-published with his company, Summit Pointe Music Publishing (BMI), and he has works published with Walton Music, Brilee Music, Heritage Music Press and Oxford University Press. Remel has recently completed commissions for Abilene Christian University, and the Fort Worth Chorale, for their Schola Cantorum program. He was the 2021 winner of the Huntsville Master Chorale composition contest, and the 2024 winner of the composition contest sponsored by The Singers-Minnesota Choral Artists of Saint Paul, Minnesota. Choirs from the University of South Dakota, University of Texas at San Antonio, Tokyo International Choir in Tokyo, Japan, as well as professional ensembles, Cantus, and VAMP from Austin, Texas, have recently performed Remel’s music.  While he wears many hats, his most important ones are as a husband to Angela, a father to Caylie, and dog dad to Asher.
